Ashore on Anguilla

Anguilla is a laid-back paradise with white sandy beaches, sparkling azure waters, and welcoming friendly people. It is a place of adventure, a place to unwind, and a place to savor. Made up of the main island and several uninhabited offshore islands including Dog, Scrub, Sombrero, and the Prickly Pear Cays, Anguilla is a tropical paradise beckoning you to stop and stay for a while.

While you could spend an entire holiday exploring this remote island getaway, the most amazing way to sample Anguilla is to arrive via your chartered yacht. Initially, you should sail around the turquoise waters stopping for a picnic lunch and a turn on the water toys along the sparkling sands of the uninhabited Prickly Pear Cays before heading to the spectacularly scenic anchorage in Crocus Bay. Take the dinghy to explore the beauty of Little Bay then enjoy an amazing evening under the stars as you are pampered in paradise by your attentive crew.

After a peaceful nights rest in Crocus Bay, head over to Road Bay to spend the day ashore taking in the low-key luxury of Anguilla. For adventure seekers, take an ATV tour of the island stoping at some of the historical sites and scenic overlooks, hop in the saddle and take a horseback ride along the beach, or take a kite-surfing lesson at the world-class kitesurfing school, Anguilla Watersports. Accomplished surfers will also find surfable breaks along the windward side of the island. For those seeking excitement beneath the bright blue waters, you should explore the sea caves of Scrub Island or any of the other amazing diving and snorkeling sites. One endeavor unique to Anguilla is the Mermaid International School, where you are transformed into a mermaid, complete with a decorative tail. After a fitting and photo shoot, you will plunge into a pool, such as the transparent infinity pool at Zemi Beach House, for a lesson. Once you have developed your mono-fin swimming skills, you can head to the beach to play in the sea and fully unleash your inner mermaid.

If you want to relax and unwind while ashore, you might enjoy a tour through the flourishing Anguillan eco-system for some bird-watching, or visit the National Heritage Museum in West End before heading out on the Anguilla Heritage Trail to learn about the rich history of the island. Another serene activity is to join AnguillArts for a beach side painting party, where you can sketch and paint your own Anguilla souvenir. For more interactive relaxation, Anguilla is home to some amazing spas like the award winning Spa by CuisinArt with a vast spa menu. Other options include Viceroy’s uber-modern spa, or Malakh Day Spa where you can get a beachside massage along the shores of Shoal Bay.

After a day absorbing all that makes Anguilla amazing, finish off your visit with a truly memorable dinner ashore. Whether it is the Anguilla Crayfish (not your typical crayfish) at Pimm’s, one of the most romantic dining establishments on the island, or the creative menu including a ceviche bar at Uchu, Anguilla has several notable fine dining restaurants. For a more casual dinner, sample some local street food at Ken’s BBQ for ribs and chicken cooked over an open grill, or visit Blanchard’s Beach Shack, one of the most popular restaurants on the island. If you want to linger a little longer in this amazing laid-back destination, pop into Elvis’ Beach Bar, located in Sandy Ground, for some reggae music and possibly a little dancing. Another option is The Dune, built incorporating driftwood along Rendezvous Bay and ranked by CNN as one of the best beach bars in the world. For a little more lively spot, particularly on Thursday nights, the Pumphouse is another notable bar on Anguilla.

After spending the day and night on Anguilla, you will head back to your yacht for a nightcap as you watch the lights of St. Martin twinkling in the distance. In the morning, you will be ready to continue your journey around the Leeward Islands. However, if your schedule is flexible, you might want to extend your stay to further enjoy scenic serene Anguilla.
