Best Bars in USVI
There’s no lack of Caribbean party spirit in the US Virgin Islands, with endless drinking holes to choose from. As usual, we’re here to offer our selection of some of the more unique and unmissable experiences to be had with the USVI’s varied nightlife. Read on for our round-up of some of the best the islands have to offer.
Duffy’s Love Shack – St Thomas
To paraphrase the B-52s the Love Shack is a little old place where you can… get together. And what better place to do it?! This legendary St Thomas bar has been a tiki-hut themed sensation since 1995. A vibrant, fun crowd are drawn by the promise of enormous cocktails, excellent food and roaring music. With drinks such as the Love Shack Volcano – a flaming 50-ounce monster – you’d be forgiven for failing to notice the animatronic shark mounted on the wall. Once the party’s in full swing, you can expect a night of dancing on the tables. Oh, and did we mention it’s located in a parking lot?
The Reichhold Center for the Arts – St Thomas
For those seeking an alternative to the usual bar scene, The Reichhold Center is a unique setting frequented by big names in music, dance and drama. This 1196 seat, outdoor amphitheater makes quite the impression with its Japanese-inspired architecture. Strikingly constructed of steel, concrete, wood, copper and limestone – the entrance hall proudly exhibits work by local painters and sculptors.
The live entertainment is as varied as the venue. Performances usually start at 8pm and you can expect nationally-known acts, as well as some bigger names (The Commodores have played this stage!)
Fort Christian Brew Pub – Christiansted
Located right on the Christiansted harbor – welcome to the USVI’s only official microbrewery! Beer lovers rejoice in sampling seasonal brews, as well as stout, pale ale and porter. Exceptional cocktails are also on offer, to help wash down clam strips, steak and other delicious dishes. Entertainment varies from live music, to live sports streaming… and crab races. Twinkly lights over the water make this a versatile and welcoming spot for the evening.
Quiet Mon – St John
St John has no shortage of bars. Most of which are relaxed and low-key, with Quiet Mon being the perfect example. Don’t be fooled by the Caribbean name – this is a traditional Irish bar with all of the trimmings. Bar games, Celtic decor and of course Strongbow cider on tap. By day, Quiet Mon is the perfect place to watch the world go by with an Irish Coffee. Come evening, the parties are known to continue into the early hours.
Divi Carina – St Croix
If you’re partial to a seat at the blackjack table, or a spin on the one-armed bandit – this 10,000 square foot casino is the place to be. Tourists and locals mingle amongst the gaming tables and slot machines, and of course in the two large bars. If you’re not keen to part with your cash, you might dabble in a free game of bingo or sit back and enjoy the daily live shows on the open stage. There are also gaming lessons available for those of you who are new to the casino floor. All of this and more, from an elegant beachfront location.
Joe’s Rum Hut – St John
No Caribbean getaway is complete without a little rum. Or maybe more than a little rum. Joe’s proudly offers an extensive collection, as well as many tempting rum-based cocktails. A large stairwell takes you straight onto the sands of St Cruz Bay, whilst the menu boasts ceviche, shrimp, tacos and salads galore. The perfect relaxing location, any time of day.
Starz – St Thomas
Split across two levels, your first choice is whether to start with the Johnny Walker Bar on the ground floor, or the Grey Goose VIP bar on the first floor. This is a proudly tourist-friendly spot, with impressive DJ lineups, comedy nights, club nights and even blues and jazz. You can call in advance for reservations and bottle service – or just turn up and see where the night takes you. Dancing, drinking and good times are guaranteed to have you going back for more.
